Love Thyself -  How To Be Well and Stay Well

Happy Spring Equinox!

This is a time of new beginnings, as the natural world awakens from its winter slumber. Even in Hawaii, we can see and feel the changing season. Flowers begin to bloom, trees bud and the weather is warm in most of the country. It's a great time to start new projects and set intentions for the coming months.

As we welcome the arrival of spring, take the time every day to appreciate the beauty of the natural world and all the possibilities that lie ahead. It’s especially a great time to get and stay healthy.

Maintaining good health and wellness is essential for leading a happy and fulfilling life. Here are some tips that most of you know, but sometimes a reminder and a good kick in the behind can motivate us. Make some Spring Equinox Resolutions.

Eat a Balanced Diet: It's important to eat a balanced and nutritious diet to maintain optimal health, one that works for you. For most, this means filling your plate with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Eat as much local and organic food as possible. Pay the farmer now, or the pharmaceutical companies later. Avoid processed foods, sugar, and alcohol, which contribute to inflammation and chronic disease. Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated are also important for overall health.

Stay Active: Shake your booty! One of the most important things you can do for your health is to prioritize regular physical activity, it is essential for maintaining good health. Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight, reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and boost your mood. Find an activity that you enjoy, whether it's swimming, dancing, brisk walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, or participating in a fitness class or yoga, and make it a regular part of your routine. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise daily.

Get Enough Sleep: Getting enough restful sleep is essential for overall health and wellness. Do whatever it takes and establish a consistent sleep schedule and create a relaxing bedtime routine to help you wind down at night. If you have trouble sleeping, avoid caffeine and alcohol before bedtime, and create a sleep-conducive environment (e.g., cool, dark, and quiet). Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

Manage Stress: I know, easier said than done, but it can be done and it is paramount to your health. Chronic stress can contribute to a variety of health problems, including anxiety, depression, and heart disease. Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as meditation, deep breathing, and spending lots of time in Nature. Engaging in hobbies or activities you enjoy, or spending time with loved ones are also effective. Always speak your truth.

Connect with Others: Party Party… just kidding, but there is a lot to be said about gathering for the right reasons. Strong social connections are essential for good health and well-being. Make time to connect with friends and family, join a social group, or volunteer in your community. Don’t let the dregs of COVID drag you down. Loneliness is a slow killer.

Practice Self-Care: Taking care of yourself is essential for maintaining good health and wellness. Practice self-care regularly, whether it's taking a bubble bath, reading a book, or enjoying a nature walk.

Seek Professional Help: If you are struggling with your physical or mental health, don't hesitate to seek professional help. A coach or therapist can provide guidance and support to help you achieve your goals and maintain good health.

By following these tips, you can take control of your health and wellness and achieve optimal well-being. Remember, good health is not just the absence of illness; it's a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.
