💎 The Power of Words

💎 The Power of Words

By Donna Maltz

Depending on how you look at it, the current state of the world can either feel like a burden or an opportunity. Being aware and adjusting our attitudes makes all the difference in our outlook on the world. It’s a choice that only we can make for ourselves.

Part of the healing process and getting over the COVID blues is to stop doubting ourselves. This comes with fostering a healthy attitude, and realizing the power of words can make all the difference.

“Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.”

~Yehuda Berg

Make a Conscious Choice Today

The most powerful words you can speak are the ones you say to yourself. Then share your feelings with those you trust and seek their help in adjusting your mindset. Take a moment and reevaluate the choices and decisions you’ve made in life.

Ask yourself these critical questions:

  • Are you proud of your choices? Are they healthy choices?
  • Do they lead to fulfillment in the end?
  • Do you choose to get things done or make things happen?
  • Or do you find yourself saying you need to, want to, have to, got to, or should have?

Replace Limiting Words with Empowering Ones

CHOOSE NOT to say, think or write these words: WANT, NEED, SHOULD, GOT TO, or HAVE TO.

Limiting the use of these words and replacing them with choice, choosing, chosen, and choose can literally change your life. These are the key shifts:

  • Instead of “I need to go to the gym,” say “I choose to go to the gym”
  • Instead of “I want more money,” say “I choose to earn more money”
  • Instead of “I have to wash the dishes,” say “I choose to wash the dishes”
  • Instead of “I should exercise,” say “I choose to exercise”

Once you choose to do something, you do not need to, have to, or got to. By making conscious choices, you move forward without regret. When you think you NEED or WANT something, whether it’s a piece of chocolate or a shift in mindset, make a choice and go for it. You are in full control of your destiny.

Understanding the Impact of Limiting Language

Blamers and complainers are drainers. They are needy and wanting most of the time. Rather than needing and wanting things, you can choose to do something about them. You don’t have to or got to choose—it’s your choice whether you should or would or could. Of course, you can choose not to choose, but then you lose.

Choose Your Words Wisely

You become what you speak!

When we speak our thoughts into existence, we give them power. Often, we say things unconsciously that put us in a negative headspace:

  • “I need more money”
  • “I want more free time”
  • “I should do this or that”
  • “I have to wash the dishes”
  • “I’ve got to get this done”

The way to take your power back is to make agreements with yourself to break all limiting self-sabotage. Replace negative limiting words with ones that liberate and empower you.

It’s your choice.

Examples of Empowering Language

Here are healthy AGREEMENTS you can make with yourself today:

  • “I have chosen to get a better job to earn more money”
  • “I choose to have a routine that provides me more free time”
  • “I am choosing to do this as it makes us both happy”
  • “I made a choice to get this done so I can move forward”

These are verbal contracts that we make with ourselves that inspire us to act more productively. Our subconscious mind comes to accept what we say, and this is how we experience our immediate reality. The only limits you have are the ones you place upon yourself.

How Feelings Affect Our Words

People may hear your words, but they feel your energy.

Kindness in words creates confidence.

Kindness in thinking creates profoundness.

Kindness in giving creates love.

~Lao Tzu

With all this said, the power of words goes beyond definition alone. How often has someone said something to you, and you did not believe a word they said? Or maybe someone gave you a “line of bull.” We often feel words more than we actually hear them. That’s why we sometimes feel like we’re not HEARD.

The wise Buddha reminds us:

“Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace.”

Choose your words wisely and with sincerity.
